Gmail is getting a facelift

It’s official – a new version of Gmail is on the way.

A leaked email from Google, meant only for the eyes of G Suite customers, was recently picked up by the Verge and revealed that a new version of the web application, complete with a “fresh, clean look” will arrive in the coming weeks and will take inspiration from the Gmail mobile app. Google has confirmed the leak to the Verge and TNW.

Gmail’s facelift will include the addition of a Smart Reply function – which is already available on the mobile app –  the ability to “snooze” emails and choose when they reappear in your inbox, and offline support, the publications reported. Offline support is expected to arrive by June 2018.

According to the G Suite email, G Suite and regular Gmail customers will have to opt in into a new Early Adopter Program to access the new-looking Gmail. The opt in option will be available in the coming weeks.

Google revealed it was working on adding new features to Gmail last year at its NEXT Conference, and at the time, the company pointed to new features such as the Smart Reply and Snooze. Google is hosting its annual Google I/O developer conference next month, where it’s expected the new Gmail design will be officially unveiled.
