Telefilm Canada now a true digital organization

For Immediate Release

August 14, 2018 (TORONTO) Telefilm Canada was one of six organizations singled out at the second annual ITWC Digital Transformation Awards held in Toronto on Tuesday.

In 2012, an external report highlighted the necessity of modernizing Telefilm Canada’s processes and consolidating them onto one platform. After evaluating the benefits of a digitized environment, Telefilm Canada created the Information System Redesign project, which had goals of improving user experience, reducing delivery delays and costs, and increasing security.

The award presented Tuesday recognizes that effort and the development that stemmed from it, a new agnostic platform on Appian called Dialogue that centralizes information and communication.

Telefilm Canada has also adopted cloud. This mobile environment helps meet the needs of clients traveling around the world to festivals, working on location, and more.

“They undertook a significant step,” said judge Gary Davenport. “They recognized that while their organization wasn’t under threat and their audience was relatively happy, it could all change if they didn’t act. It was a significant change in thinking which is a significant part of what transformation is all about.”

During the conference that preceded the awards, the findings of two national studies were released: an ITWC/OpenText survey of the financial services and insurance industry and the annual CanadianCIO Census looking at the state of the CIO role in Canada. Government of Canada CIO Alex Benay opened the conference, and various panels discussed the impact of AI, best practices for security, and emerging opportunities around blockchain.

“We’re coming into a time of widening possibility when it comes to digital,” said ITWC CIO Jim Love. “Listening to our presenters and reviewing the accomplishments of our award winners, I see a dynamic spirit across the entire spectrum. This is very exciting.”

Event sponsors included BlackBerry, CA Technologies, Genesys, OpenText, Microsoft and SAS. Supporters included CATA Alliance, the CIO Association of Canada, Digital Nova Scotia, ICTC, FGS, IDC, SIM Toronto, Steam Labs, Ward Technology Talent, and Workday.
