Acer launches Iconia Tab A700 in Canada

Not to be outdone by Google’s announcement it will work with Asus to manufacture the Nexus 7 tablet, Acer America announced its own new Android tablet today.

Like Google’s Nexus 7, the Acer Iconia Tab A700 runs on Android 4.0 and is powerd by a quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 mobile processor. The LED display is backlit and has a 16:10 aspect ratio. Unlike the Nexus 7, this is a 10.1-inch screen with a 1920×1200 resolution (larger than the 1280×800 resolution offered on the Nexus 7).

The tablet has 32 GB of internal flash storage and supports microSD cards up to 64 GB for external memory. It has 1 GB of RAM and a 12-core graphics processor. The battery is rated for 10.5 hours of video play back, or eight hours of Web-surfing.

Acer has released a new Android tablet to the market.

Iconia Tab A700 has Dolby Mobile 3 speakers and can be connected via HDMI cable to an entertainment system with 5.1 channel surround sound. It has a 5 MP rear-facing camera that supports auto-focus, and a 1 MP fixed-focused camera is on the front for Web conferencing.

Acer is packaging some apps with the tablet including the Polaris Office 3.5, which allows customer to read and edit office documents. It also has Evernote pre-installed, a cloud-based note taking service that syncs across multiple devices. Acer Print allows for printing from the tablet to 87 per cent of brand name prints, according to Acer.

The new Iconia tablet is available now at a recommended retail price of $449.99. The tablet was originally slated for launch two weeks ago, but faced delays coming to market.
