If you’re an entrepreneur or a small business that relies on wireless services from the retail carrier industry here in Canada, now is your chance to give your two cents.
The Canadian Radio-television Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has opened up the online consultation portion of its process to develop a Wireless Code. The goal of the code will be to help customers of wireless carriers better understand what rights they have when it comes to ending contracts, being charged for services, and other issues around mobile devices.

The CRTC was motivated to further regulate this area after complaints to the Commissioner for Complaints for Telecommunications Services (CCTS) about wireless services vastly outnumbered complaints about other telecommunications areas last year. In an exclusive story, ITBusiness.ca also found that business-related complaints for wireless services were a top concern.
Those who wish to comment are required to create an account on the CRTC’s Web site. Comments can also be voted on by members of the site. The top comment, with 43 “likes” so far, complains the 36 month contract is too long. A similar comment, calling for a maximum of 24 months on a contract, also received 21 likes.
The online consultation runs from Nov. 13 to Dec. 4. A public hearing will be held in February 2013.
