3 marketers worth following on Twitter

It’s Friday and that means it’s time for our weekly roundup of people worth following on Twitter. This week was full of marketing news coverage here at ITBusiness.ca so we’re focusing on a few of the marketers we’re talking to and talking about with these recommendations.

Unless you were living under a rock in 2012, you likely saw at least a few of astronaut Chris Hadfield’s photos from the International Space Station during his stint as commander on the orbital outpost. The Canadian quickly became one of the best-known astronauts in the world for his ability to pair amazing photos of the planet with humorous quips on Twitter. But his huge social media following and demand as a speaker now that he’s back on Earth didn’t come without help. In his new book, An Astronaut’s Guide to Life on Earth he shares how his marketing guru son Evan Hadfield acted as social media mission control back on Earth and amplified his out-of-this-world content across digital channels. If you need any further convincing he’s worth following on Twitter, this picture of a pig next to a bonfire should suffice.

When Facebook held its F8 conference this week and rolled out a series of platform changes that would affect both app developers and marketers, Ziyan Hossain, product and business strategy for Qnext Corp. helped us understand the impact for the business users of Facebook’s platform. He’s a great engager on Twitter, and the Qnext app that aggregates access to all your cloud storage accounts and your own PC is really worth a look too.

Also helping us interpret the social media tea leaves after the Facebook announcement was Mario Zelaya, managing director of Majestic Media. He has the unique skill set that is a hybrid of marketing and development, so his agency is also unique. It offers campaign strategy along with its custom apps for businesses looking to improve engagement on digital channels, and the Twitter stream offers up a good selection of curated digital marketing content.
