The full-featured versions of two of Adobe’s best-known software programs — Photoshop for photo editing and Premiere for video editing — aren’t cheap, and offer more functionality than most casual users could ever need. For the casual user, Adobe has Elements, and had just released a new verion of each.
As the light version of Photoshop, Adobe’s Elements 14 is designed to meet the needs of the amateur photographer who wants to just make some quick edits to make their photos look their best before sharing with family or through social media. Highlighting the new edition are tools to improve all the types of photos we’re taking, from smartphone selfies to tablet lanfscapes.
One new tool is a solution to a common problem with smartphone pictures — camera shake (as seen in photo above). Now, one click can remove the shake generated while trying to get the right arm angle for your selfie. Other new tools include a haze remover to make your landscape backgrounds look their best, and an enhanced analyzer to make automatic improvements.
As a light version of Premiere, Adobe’s Premiere Elements 14 has the needs of the amateur video editor in mind. They’re shooting lots of video of their kids with their smartphone, and it could use a few edits before it goes to Facebook. The new edition includes tools specifically for handling smartphone and tablet-shot video.
With 4K cameras now coming to smartphones, the new edition now includes support for 4K resolution video. There are new tools for fine-tuning the audio on your clips so it sounds its best, enhanced animated titles and openings, and improved guided edits through each step of the editing process for those that need a little more help.
Both programs include improved tools for sharing your creations with the world, or just with friends and family. Premiere Elements includes the ability to easily export videos in multiple formats, and easy upload to YouTube, Facebook and Vimeo. Photoshop Elements also has easy sharing to Facebook, YouTube, Vimeo and Twitter.
