Getting smaller, faster and ready for the more flexible workplace of the future were the goals behind a recent refresh by Dell Inc. of its OptiPlex commercial desktops and the launch of a new Wyse all-in one-zero client.
It what Dell is calling the most significant refresh of its OptiPlex line of commercial desktops in years, it launched five new models that boast a new design while leveraging the latest Intel Core vPro processors, a doubled memory capacity and greater storage capacity. It also launched the Wyse 5050 AIO zero client for VMware and new cloud multi function printers.
“We are defining the future of the PC and the role it plays in meeting our customers’ most pressing computing needs,” said Jeff Clarke, president of client solutions at Dell, in a statement. “We are investing in this part of our business like never before, bringing new innovations to market that are redefining the role of the PC – whether it’s an ultra-mobile 2-in-1, thin or zero client, or a desktop that now handles workloads for a mobile workforce who require a robust collaboration solution.”
Designed for commercial users, Dell’s OptiPlex PC line comes with endpoint security options such as Dell’s own Dell Data Protection suite for encryption, authentication, malware protection and threat protection. They also feature Intel’s Core vPro processor technology and Client Command Suite for improved IT manageability.
The refresh OptiPlex lineup features smaller and more energy-efficient designs in a number of form factors, including Micro Form Factor, Small Form Factor, Mini Tower and All-in-One designs. The five new models include:
- OptiPlex 7040: Dell’s enterprise-class desktop model, it’s the most expandable of the portfolio and includes discrete graphics, dual hard drives and triple display ports.
- OptiPlex 5040: Middle of the road commercial desktop that balances features with price.
- OptiPlex 3040: Entry-level commercial desktop.
- OptiPlex 24 7000 Series All-In-One (7440): A secure all-in-one with a sleek new design and a 23.8” Full HD display – a 4K Ultra HD display is an option.
- OptiPlex 22 3000 Series All-In-One (3240): A more budget-friendly all-in-one with a 21.5” Full HD display.
Also new from Dell is the Wyse 5050 AIO. This zero client all-in-one comes with a Full HD 23.6” display. It uses PCoIP technology to deliver the desktop and offers full USB peripheral interoperability, rich multimedia, and support for high-resolution 3D graphics and advanced applications such as CAD and video editing. The zero client is tucked away on the back of the monitor, and comes with six USB ports and a rotating and detachable base.
Additionally, Dell has released five new printers designed to meet the needs of business workers who are no longer restricted to working on just one device. Three new H-Series printers, the H625cdw, H825cdw, and H815dw) include Dell Document Hub, which allows users to access and print from cloud storage services such as Dropbox and Salesforce, and print from a Document Hub app on their smartphone or other device.
Two new S-Series smart/multi function printers, the S2825cdn and S2815dn, are designed for more security-conscious enterprise environments and add features such as scanning to SharePoint On-Premise along with more granular security controls.
