Sybase introduces software suite for mobile business
Sybase Inc. announced the launch of Sybase Information Anywhere Suite, a secure, scalable mobile software platform. The suite combines mobile e-mail, device management, enterprise-to-edge security and enterprise application enablement.
Information Anywhere Suite supports a broad range of devices, connectivity modes and information sources and its architecture enables frontline workers to access e-mail, data and enterprise systems and applications anytime and anywhere from a mobile device, with or without a live connection to the corporate network.
Some of the other features in the suite include heterogeneous mobile e-mail delivery, mobile device management, mobile device security and mobile enterprise application enablement.
Information Anywhere Suite is expected to be available in Q3 2006.
Rogers and RIM Introduce EDGE-enabled BlackBerry 7130g
Rogers Wireless and Research In Motion (RIM) announced the release of the BlackBerry 7130g, a quad band GSM device, which works on Roger’s GSM/GPRS/EDGE network.
The BlackBerry 7130g comes with a full-featured phone and integrated wireless high-speed access to e-mail, text messaging, Internet, organizer and other data applications. It incorporates RIM’s SureType technology which converges a telephone keypad and a QWERTY keyboard to attain a narrower design.
Featuring a re-engineered BlackBerry device platform that features an Intel processor and 64MB flash memory, the BlackBerry 7130g is optimized for Rogers’ high-speed EDGE network, delivering Web browsing and other online applications. Since the phone is rater for all GSM frequencies, Rogers customers can roam in 80 countries.
The BlackBerry 7130g also includes premium phone features including smart dialing, conference calling, speed dial, call forwarding, polyphonic and MP3 ring tones, as well as speakerphone and Bluetooth to allow support for a broad range of wireless headsets and car kits. Lastly, the 7130g features a 240 x 260 color LCD screen that supports more than 65,000 colours and utilizes active matrix transmissive technology to deliver vivid graphics and readability in different environments.
With no term, the 7130g is available for $499.99. With a three, two or one-year term new subscribers can purchase the 7130g for $249.99, $449.99 and $499.99 respectively.
Intel releases server processors
Intel Corp. introduced its dual-core Intel Xeon Processor 5100 series for the high-volume server, workstation, communications, storage and embedded market segments.
According to Intel, the Dual-Core Intel Xeon Processor 5100 series delivers up to 135 per cent performance improvements and up to 40 per cent reduction in energy consumption over previous Intel server chips.
Intel will ship the 5100 series at frequencies up to 3.0 GHz speed and faster, 1333 MHz front side bus and 4MB of shared L2 cache or memory reservoir between both cores. The 3 GHz version will ship with a thermal design point (TDP) of 80 watts with all others rated at 65W.
Intel has set pricing for the Intel Xeon processor 5100 family from US$209 to US$851 in 1,000-unit quantities, depending on features. Intel will also provide extended lifecycle support of five to seven years for its communications, storage and embedded customers.
