I still get shocked when I hear that someone doesn’t like their job. In my head, there are pretty much two options in life work-wise:
1) Work at a job you hate because it’s taking you closer to where you need to be
2) Work at a job and love your life
Anything else is an injustice to your education and any life lesson you’ve learned thus far. For the sheer number of hours in life you dedicate (over 10,0000), you can’t afford not to. Especially us business geeks who know just how much opportunity is out there; in apps, software, education, open source and social media.
The benefit of having a passion for what you do and doing a good job also leads to some pretty amazing things . If you provide a service people can stand behind, you too have a chance at making 901 Million users happy. You too can have volunteers that break their back for you, like Wikipedia’ volunteer editor reaching 1 Million edits.
Yes, your very own opportunity to make a dent in the world. Not to mention the increased smiling, an overall joy in general and thicker skin.
But, it takes loving what you do. Like really loving what you do. It’s often a fine balance between working your @ss off and becoming bitter, tired, negative and an overall hindrance to your own well being and future.
