Dell Inc. is looking to appeal to both the on-the-go consumer and mobile worker, especially with its newest convertible tablet, the Inspiron duo.
The Inspiron duo is the newest creation to join Dell’s lineup of consumer products. The tablet can be converted from a netbook with a keyboard to a touch screen tablet to satisfy users’ various needs.
Dell’s newer products, including the tablet, aim to incorporate attractive design elements and features that appeal to the general public, but also include aspects that make work easier for SMBs, says Hanif Thakor, brand manager of laptops and mobile workstations for SMBs at Dell.
The Inspiron duo features a 10.1-inch, high-definition display that uses multitouch. It uses Windows 7 Home Premium, has an Intel Atom N550 dual-core processor and has 2GB of RAM. It also uses Dell’s duo Stage interface, which aims to help users find their content quickly.
The tablet also includes two USB ports, one headphone port, an integrated 1.3 MP front-facing camera and a digital microphone. There is also an optional Inspiron duo Audio Station dock available, with a built-in media card reader, JBL speakers, two additional USB 2.0 ports, an Ethernet adapter and battery charger.

Many people, including Dell’s own employees, are increasingly working while at home or on the road, says Thakor, and Dell’s shift toward offering more mobile products reflects that.
The Inspiron duo, for example, has the unique feature of literally flipping from touch to type, which makes for easy switching from keyboard work-mode to a touch screen that can be used for entertainment like gaming or watching videos.
The Vostro V130, another relatively new Dell product, also aims to increase productivity without sacrificing design elements that appeal to consumers. It has a 13.3-inch screen and weighs 3.5 lbs to allow for more worker mobility.
The laptop is the newest in the Vostro line and has been available in Canada since late 2010. It features an HDMI port, a webcam and 802.11n wireless technology to maximize mobile productivity and communication. The V130 also comes equipped with services to protect it from viruses and other threats, as well as an anti-theft program called CompuTrace.

The Inspiron duo starts at $549 or $649 with the optional dock, and is currently available on Dell’s website. The Vostro V130 starts at $429 and is available online along with the rest of the Vostro line.
