Thanks to the release of Windows 8, the last quarter of 2012 may be looked back upon as the rise of the hybrids.
Tobshiba Corp. is the latest to reveal its new hardware built with Windows 8 in mind. The U920T Ultrabook Convertible launched today, with its key form factor difference being a sliding hinge. The device can be propped up like a standard notebook, screen tilted up and keyboard flat, or pressed flat on the table and squished together to become a tablet.
Toshiba hasn’t announcedrelease date information yet, only that it will be after Microsoft coughs up its new operating system Oct. 26. The price starts at $1,149.99.

The U920T meets Intel’s Ultrabook specifications with a form factor weighing in at 3.2 pounds and a profile 0.8 inches thick. Its Gorilla Glass 12.5-inch touch screen display will be an HD touch screen. The specs include a Intel Core i5 processor, 128 GB solid state disc, and both a front-facing and rear-facing camera.
