Research In Motion previewed its PlayBook OS 2.0 software update which is expected to be available this February. The upgrade brings a number of refinements to the user interface as well as much sought after functionality such as native e-mail application, a Personal Information Manager app as well as a contacts app.
There will also be improved BlackBerry Bridge connectivity that will allow recent BlackBerry smartphones to be used as remote controls for the tablet for the playing back of media such as video, slideshows and presentations.
Jonathan Wong, Senior Product Manager for RIM, demonstrated some of the apps that would appeal to business users at CES including Citrix Receiver, which uses virtual machines to allow the PlayBook to run Windows applications.
Also on display was the Android App Player that should be able to run many Google Android applications on the PlayBook and expand the library of applications for the tablet.
