A hackathon hosted by several Montreal-based student groups produced five tech-based projects which could one day find their way to production, according to a report by technology and startup publication, Next Montreal.
Occupy Notman, a 33-hour hackathon event organized by Montreal startup-focused student group, Startupifier , Tech Think Tank of McGill University and SCS Concrodia (Software Engineering and Computer Science Society), was put up to help teams of tech-inclined students launch their products and projects and to provide them with an opportunity to meet and mingle with developers, designers and business people. The event was sponsored by Google Inc. and Yellow API.
The top three winners in the event were:
Series of Tunes – A site that provides a random song, and then allows them to “push” the song to their friends’ playlists
Climate change in your location – This app tells you how climate change will affect your exact location. The app uses latitude and longitude and open APIs to give you a quick climate snapshot of the year 2100
Pyro – An environmentally-unfriendly, anti-social game
Other entries were:
Node Arduino – The prototype of a Web site-based button which connects to node server to control lighting
Clever Tower – A social network for landlords and tenants which serves as a marketplace for apartments
