Long-time IT industry veteran Nick Tidd, president of 3Com Canada, is being promoted and will be leaving his current post.
According to Gavin Fick, national channel sales manager for 3Com Canada, the subsidiary will have a new country manager and that a 3rd party recruitment firm has been hired
to find Tidd’s replacement.
“The person we need for that job is some who has in-depth experience and a heavy rolodex in the IT end user community,” Fick said.
The new country manager does not necessarily have to come from the channel, but someone who understands the market and has contacts in the business community, Fick said.
Tidd’s new job will be international in scope. However, he will still be based at 3Com Canada’s headquarters in Mississauga, Ont. He will not relocate to 3Com’s new headquarters in Marlborough, Mass. Tidd is currently working on the 3Com/Hauwei joint venture integration project, which he started more than nine months ago.
“It has become a large job and he was doing double duty,” Fick said. “Having a two full-time jobs is a big job that is only getting bigger,” he added.
Tidd is part of a small group at 3Com working on the joint venture integration process that will eventually lower costs and enable 3Com to become more efficient in their business and support its customer base better, Fick said.
Fick also said that Tidd will still be around to support the Canadian effort.
3Com also announced that they will be cutting 10 per cent of its workforce. Those cuts will not take place at 3Com Canada, Fick said.
3Com will also be giving away a classic 1973 Corvette in celebration of Ethernet turning 30 this year.
>From June 9 through August 31, 3Com will be offering a $150 Visa debit card to qualified resellers when they purchase any three products from the SuperStack line. With that they will be entered into a sweepstakes for a chance at a 1973 Corvette.
“We need to be more aggressive and this promotion does not respond to the market pressure as much as we are initiating it,” Fick said.
The discounts for this new program can be combined with 3Com’s other government and education discount programs. Resellers will not be able to add these discounts with any special price quotes from 3Com.
The promotion has its old Web site at www.3com.com/partners/73corvette.
