The 9700 model is available now in a 10-slot chassis with a management and switching fabric module. Users have a choice of a two-port 10 Gigabit module (XFP) a 24-port Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 copper module or a 24-port Gigabit Ethernet fibre SFP module.
Alcatel plans to ship a larger model, the OmniSwitch 9800 chassis, which includes a six-port 10-Gigabit Ethernet module (XFP) and a 24-port RF45 copper module with power over Ethernet.
Alcatel’s T1/E1 OmniAccess router series now includes the one-port 601 model and the two-port 602 models for branch office networks, plus the four-port 640 model for large branch offices or network aggregation, and the 625 chassis for larger aggregation requirements.
They include two 10/100 ports and DSX-1 for multiplexing voice and data on to the uplink. All multi-port versions combine multiple T1/E1 or T3/E3s into a single logical circuit. The routers support voice over IP, fast-path forwarding, quality of service and virtual Ethernet, which lets users work on networks connecting several buildings over a wide area.
Administrators can set up virtual private networks to connect both branch offices and telecommuters. Pricing ranges from US$995 for the OmniAccess 601 to $6,490 for the OmniAccess 625 with eight T1/E1 connections.
