A Canadian vendor whose deep packet software solutions have been used by ISPs for traffic throttling has been acquired by a U.S. competitor.
Vineyard Networks, a Kelowna, B.C.-based vendor whose deep packet inspection (DPI) solutions and NAVL engine is used in products from companies such as Sophos and Riverbed Technology, has announced an agreement that will see it acquired by DPI maker Procera Networks of Freemont, Calif. for $28 million in cash and stock.
Vineyard will give Procera a footprint in the big data market.
According to a report from IT World Canada, the goal of the acquisition is to merge Procera’s PacketLogic solutions with NAVL over the next year or so to offer DPI to both service providers and enterprises.
