Chris Hadfield joins Jimmy Fallon & Ellen DeGeneres as Webby Award nominees

While stars such as Jimmy Fallon, Ellen DeGeneres, Jimmy Kimmel and Coldplay stand out on the list of Webby Award nominees, some 30 Canadians were also nominated and could reach the podium when the awards are presented.

Established in 1996 and organized by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, the Webbys honour the best of the Internet in a variety of categories, from best website and best social campaign to best use of online film and video and interactive advertising & media.

The public is able to vote for the Webby People’s Voice Awards until the end of the day on April 23. The winners will be announced on April 27, and celebrated on May 18 during a webcast awards ceremony hosted by comedian Hannibnal Burress.

Here’s a look at some of the Canadian Webby Award nominees for 2015:

In the online film and video category, the Dogwood Initiative and NoTankers.ca were nominated for a project highlighting the risks of oil tankers off the British Columbia coast.

The #LikeAGirl ad campaign for Always was created in Toronto and was nominated in three Webby categories for its empowering message of changing the meaning of the phrase “Like a Girl.”

TBWA Toronto was nominated in the branded content category for this Sledge Hockey campaign for Gatorade, which saw NHL stars like Sydney Crosby play sledge hockey with professional players.

The responsive website that Zync designed for Canada’s favourite astronaut, Chris Hadfield, is up against Ellen DeGeneres and Star Wars in the Websites: Celebrity/Fan category. The site includes videos, upcoming speaking engagements and events.
