Cisco Announces compact 40Gbps-per-slot routing system
Cisco Systems announced an extension to its CRS-1 Carrier Routing System.

The four-slot version of the CRS-1 provides 320Gbps of total switching capacity in a compact 40Gbps-per-slot chassis, enabling deployment at regional Points of Presence (POPs), MSO hub locations and data centre peering sites. This enables providers to deploy CRS-1s more broadly, allowing rapid deployment and continued expansion of IPTV, digital video and other advanced business and residential IP services. The four-slot CRS-1 joins the 16-slot platform (1.2Tbps) and the eight-slot platform (640Gbps), all of which feature cross-slot-compatibility.

The Cisco IP NGN enables the development and delivery of application- and subscriber-aware services to help providers increase revenue and enhance efficiencies for improved profitability and control of their networks and business.

Distributed deployment of 40Gbps routing helps ensure that providers are able to meet the ever-increasing demand for delivery of video services including digital cable, IPTV, video-on-demand (VoD) and high-definition television (HDTV). The Cisco CRS-1 offers continuous system operation and offers service flexibility and system longevity. The Cisco CRS-1 is powered by Cisco IOS XR Software, a self-healing distributed operating system designed for always-on operation while scaling system capacity up to 92 Tbps.

The CRS-1 four-slot single-shelf system will be available in November. The starting system list price is US$160,000.

DataMirror announces enhanced Oracle RAC support

DataMirror announced that it has extended its log-based Change Data Capture (CDC) technology for Oracle RAC (Real Application Clusters) environments, enabling customers to make better operational and tactical business decisions by distributing up-to-the-minute information across the enterprise, while their Oracle-based applications run continuously at peak capacity throughout the day.

Rather than using triggers or performing queries against the database, Transformation Server 5.4 and iReflect 3.0 – the latest versions of DataMirror’s real-time data integration solutions – incorporate log-based CDC to capture changes in a database by reading the redo logs of every node in a cluster and then distributing the changed data to other data stores or applications in the order the transactions occurred, thereby providing a single view of the organization with data integrity. With CDC, data is processed throughout the day as changes occur, rather than during a nightly batch window, delivering the most current information and accurate business intelligence. Organizations also eliminate redundant data transfer, free up their batch window for other tasks and save network bandwidth.

Transformation Server 5.4 streamlines business processes and applications within the enterprise by supporting cross-platform data integration. DataMirror iReflect 3.0 distributes and consolidates data to and from different versions of Oracle databases over geographically dispersed systems, thereby improving centralized reporting and on-demand analytics.

ArcticLine Software introduces freeware app for organizing PC folders
ArcticLine Software has announced the release of Folder Marker 1.2. This Windows add-on lets users mark out important folders with color-coded or image coded icons in order to make them easier to spot among similar-looking yellow folders. Users can mark folders by priority (high, normal, low), level of project completeness (done, half-done, planned) and type of information stored in them (work, important, temp and private files).

Folder icons can be customized using the standard Windows method but with Folder Marker users can do this on the by using the right-click menu of a folder. Users can also mark out several folders by selecting a group of folders with the mouse and assigning a new icon from the right-click menu. The program can also assign icons to a folder from a number of file formats including ICO, ICL, EXE, DLL, CPL or BMP.

Folder Marker runs under all Windows operating systems, starting with Windows 98.
