A startup in Waterloo, Ont. Is living the dream, moving from an incubator into new digs with search giant Google.
Currently housed in the Communitech Hub startup incubator, BufferBox Inc. was purchased Friday by Google for an undisclosed sum. The two-year old start-up is a mixture of old business and new businesses. Essentially, it rents temporary lockers located in central public locations, such as Toronto’s Union Station, that users can have packages from online retailers sent to. When their package is in, they get an e-mail with a temporary code and use it to retrieve their parcel.
According to a report in the Financial Post, BufferBox’s office is right below Google’s, so it won’t be a big move for the two-year-old startup. The company is expected to fit well with Google’s mobile commerce arm, which is centred in Waterloo.
