Investment regulators latest in long line of high-profile data breaches

It seems lately that major security breaches involving the loss of thousands or millions of pieces of identifiable information are a daily occurrence.

The Investment Regulatory Organization of Canada is the latest to suffer a breach in a story that is beginning to sound familiar. A USB device was lost by an employee, and it happened to contain details about more than 50,000 clients of brokerage firms that included tidbits like social insurance numbers, birth dates, bank account numbers, and more. The government organization announced the breach April 11 and today released an update promising to do what it could to protect client information lost on the device.

Toronto-based Firmex has put together this infographic to illustrate 10 recent high-profile security breaches that impacted major Web brands and even caught President Obama’s attention.
