The Information Technology Association of Canada (ITAC) is partnering with Magnet, a Toronto-based, non-profit career networking platform, to help Canadian businesses in tech with finding and recruiting new employees.

On Tuesday, ITAC announced it would be joining forces with Magnet, giving it another source of job postings for its platform. The idea is to give job seekers another place to look for postings, while small to mid-sized businesses (SMBs) will get more access to candidates for their positions.

Cofounded by Ryerson University and the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, Magnet is geared towards young people who are seeking jobs, given the high rate of youth unemployment and underemployment within Canada.

Its platform uses the technology behind its platform to match job seekers with roles they might be interested in. So instead of forcing job seekers to sift through unrelated postings, job seekers will instead receive emails directly notifying them about roles where they can use their experiences and skills.

On the other side, Magnet also helps businesses and hiring managers save time. By logging their postings with Magnet, they’ll know the people that apply for their postings will tend to have the right set of qualifications. That gives SMBs more power to compete for talent, even if they don’t have a human resources department with a big budget.

“The number one issue for information technology companies in Canada is talent. With Magnet’s precision matching technology, companies will quickly and easily be able to find the workers they need to be more efficient and therefore more competitive,” said Karma Gupta, CEO of ITAC, in a statement. He added ITAC would be encouraging all of its members to participate.

Aside from ITAC, Magnet has also reached out to other businesses, educational institutions, employment agencies, and social agencies to try to get more jobs onto its platform. Its service is available to members of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, which represents about 60,000 employers.

Beyond being cofounded by Ryerson, Magnet has also partnered with a few universities, including OCAD University, the University of Toronto, and Western University. It has also teamed up with over 10 colleges, including Toronto’s Sheridan College, George Brown College, and Humber College.
