While it’s seen as more business and career-focused than other social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, that hasn’t stopped LinkedIn from hitting a major milestone this week – 200 million global users.
The 200 million LinkedIn members span more than 200 countries and territories, and more than 19 languages. It also includes seven million users here in Canada, which puts is 5th on the list of countries with the most LinkedIn members, behind the U.S., India, the U.K. and Brazil.
And many of them work in the technology industry. IT-related industries make up three of the top five industries represented by LinkedIn users: IT and services at No. 1, computer software at No. 4 and telecommunications at No. 5.
To compare the LinkedIn figures, Facebook claims over one billion users (although critics have questioned the validity of the figure). Twitter is pegged at over 500 million existing accounts, but less than 100 million are considered active.
