NCR offers tool to combat cheque fraud

NCR Corp. announced the release of ImageMark Deposit Review, a software application designed to address fraud by extending and enhancing the financial institutions’ (FI) current compliance and risk initiatives.

NCR’s ImageMark Deposit Review allows FIs to detect, isolate and evaluate “suspect” cheque deposits early in the cheque processing process — before posting or image exchange occurs. ImageMark Deposit Review includes a browser-based review function. It can run parallel to NCR’s ImageMark Transaction Manager for cheque-processing workflow, merging in before or after balancing without increasing the overall processing time. Using analytics, rules are programmed into the application to flag items such as deposits for new accounts, high-dollar values, high-risk customer profiles as well as the bank’s own unique requirements. An FI can program different rules for various purposes or banking channels and update them quickly and easily to accommodate new regulations or new fraud types. Since the review function is thin client-based, it does not need to reside within operations or the FI, but can be placed wherever the expert reviewer resides

ImageMark Deposit Review can also provide images and data for the items in question to the bank’s current risk and compliance systems, enhancing those systems and increasing controls while protecting the FI’s investment in current systems.  This application also provides management and reporting capabilities to assist with the identification of trends and other important reporting and decision-making factors.

Symantec trials Norton 360 beta

Symantec Corp. launched the public beta of its all-in-one consumer security service. Norton 360 combines Symantec’s PC security and tuneup technologies with automated backup and online transaction security capabilities.

The service is designed to help protect users from Internet threats, online scams and identity theft while safeguarding important documents, photos and music through automated online backup and restore functionality. Norton 360 also provides consumers with free 24×7 support via embedded e-mail and online chat, which will be active during the beta period.

Norton 360 is backed by Symantec’s security knowledge and assets, including the company’s Global Intelligence Network, which consists of the Symantec DeepSight Threat Management System and Symantec Managed Security Services, providing more than 40,000 sensors monitoring network activity in more than 180 countries.  Norton 360 also takes advantage of Symantec’s Phish Report Network, an anti-fraud community where members contribute and receive fraudulent Web site addresses for alerting and filtering, to protect consumers against fraudulent Web sites.

Beta testers must have Windows XP and an Internet connection, and they must uninstall other security solutions from their systems.  The final version of Norton 360 is scheduled to be available for purchase by March 2007 in multiple languages and countries.

PIM aimed at corporate and home users alike

Loginor announced ABIX 6.30, its personal information manager (PIM) for home and corporate use.

ABIX is designed to facilitate the recording, tracking and management of to-do-tasks, significant dates (birthdays, anniversaries, appointments), address books, card files, notes, and inventories. There is also a personal finance utility that allows tracking income and expenses, pinpoint costs and areas of excessive.

Version 6.30 further expands the functionality of ABIX with two utilities – the ‘Loan Calculator’ and the ‘Measurement Converter’. ABIX 6.30 runs under all versions of Windows OS and costs US$29.95 for an Individual license and US$99.95 for a Network license (five users). Licensed customers are entitled to yearly maintenance, which includes all upgrades free of charge for 12 months from the date of purchase
