New Products – VoIP hardware

RALEIGH, N.C. – Raytheon’s JPS Communications unit is shipping the ACU-M, which connects radios with iDEN from Nextel.

A miniature version of JPS’s 24-port ACU-1000, the ACU-M interoperability device includes four audio repots, two VoIP channels and a headset port. The manufacturer states it can connect radios in any band, including HF, VHG, UHF, P25 and 800 MHz.

The Ethernet port provides access to the VoIP channels and can also be used for upgrades and remote control.

It can be controlled either locally over remotely through its serial and Ethernet ports.

It has a water-resistant front panel and can be powered by battery, a vehicle 12-Volt outlet or AC.

JPS Communications is also shipping the Analog Radio Adapter ARA-1, which lets a land mobile radio connect to a private branch exchange (PBX) using session initiation protocol (SIP).

A radio connected to the ARA is assigned an extension number, which can be reached using an IP phone or other device connected to the SIP PBX.

Telus Mobility offers Motorola EVDO smart phone

VANCOUVER – Motorola is shipping a Windows Mobile 5.0 smart phone with QWERTY keyboard, the MOTOQ, through Telus Mobility.

The phone lets subsribers to Telus Mobility’s E-mail and Web Plan access Telus Business Inbox wireless e-mail using Visto Inc.’s software. It includes trackwheel navigation, a wide-format screen, mini SD memory card slot, full-duplex speakerphone and a 1.3 megapixel camera with video capture.

Telus Mobility says the phone offers “typical download speeds” of 400 to 700 kilobits per second (Kbps) with a maximum possible speed of 2 Megabits per second (Mbps) on the carrier’s EVDO network.

The Business Inbox service, which allows access to Microsoft Outlook (with Exchange Server 2003) and Lotus Notes inboxes, which is available at no charge with a Telus Mobility monthly data plan, gives secure access to e-mail and attachments, calendar and contact information.

The MOTOQ lets users view Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat files.

The device is available for $249.99 with a three-year contract, $499.99 with a two-year contract, $549.99 with a one-year contract or for $599.99 with no contract.

SAJ JOSE, Calif. – Maxxan Systems Inc. is shipping the CipherMax, a pair of Fiber Channel switches with security technologies, including 256-bit encryption.

The MXV250 Midrange Secure Storage Application Platform scales from 16 to 64 ports, with intelligent line cards. The MXV 500 SSAP scales to 512 ports.

Both products, which are designed for disaster recovery and data replication, have system control cards, switch fabric cards and can either be installed as core switches or trunked to the edge of an existing fabric.

The CipherMax’s split management interface has separate roles for storage administrators, security administrators and recovery officers. It includes security audit logs, which record policy violations.

Other security features include random key generation, secure key storage with integrity check, secure key backup and system recovery operations.

Both the MXV250 and MXV500 include SANCruiser software, which lets administrators view and manage the entire SAN. It also includes network discovery, fault identification, performance monitoring, environmental management and port configuration.

EVERETT, Wash. – Fluke Networks is shipping an update to its EtherScope testing tool, and a 10-Gigabit Ethernet cable testing kit.

The EtherScope Series II Network Assistant is designed to provide information on twisted pair, fiber optic and wireless networks. It has Gigabit fiber connections and 802.1X authentication.

The connection log lets users determine the cause of 802.1X security problems and the Power over Ethernet verification feature emulates a powered device.

The 802.11 testing includes information about RF signal strength, access point and client configurations and network utilization. It is designed to detect unauthorized access points and lists the security settings of all discovered wireless devices. The suggested list price starts at $5,999.

Fluke has also announced the DTX-1800 CableAnalyzer, with a DTX 10 Gig Kit. It is designed to certify the link performance of high-speed transmissions over twisted-pair copper. The DTX can certify individual links up to 500 MHz. It measures and evaluates alien crosstalk parameters by measuring the signal coupling from one cable to another within a bundle of twisted pair links.

Fluke states the alien crosstalk testing is important for 10 Gigabit, because the signaling has high frequency components up to 500 MHz, crosstalk increases as the frequency of the signal increase.

The DTX 10 Gig Kit has a set of communications modules that snap into the DTX-1800 units and software that calculates alien crosstalk power sum test parameters.

Shunra Software Ltd. and NetScout Systems Inc. are shipping network performance management tools.

New York-based Shunra announced Virtual Enterprise (VE) version 4.5, which is designed to simulate a production network environment, including remote locations.

It can also simulate a Web site accessed by hundreds or thousands of users simultaneously, using either dial-up, cable modem or DSL, so users can discover Web site or application flaws and bottlenecks.

Version 4.5 has filtering capabilities that let users set conditions based on VLAN tags, MPLS labels, TOS/DSCP, IP or TCP headers fields and bit patterns inside packet headers or payloads.

It can simulate cellular and wireless networks, including inter-cell handoffs and line of sight. It also simulates network parameters such as bandwidth, congestion, channel noise and quality of service.

It can be used in combination with testing automation tools from Borland and Mercury Interactive.
