Nokia N97 launched on Bell HSPA network

Nokia World kicked off today in London with EVP Niklas Savander targeting his sights squarely on competitors Apple and Google.

While iPhones and Android devices might be all the rage in North America, Nokia is the world’s smartphone leader thanks to its dominances in Asian and European markets. Its shared Symbian platform is the most-used smartphone OS in the world and Savander claimed during his keynote that Ovi Maps – not Google Maps – is the leader in mobile navigtaion.

While Nokia might be a bigger deal overseas, it’s not something to be ignored in the West. This launch of the Nokia N97 back in May shows off an advanced touch screen smartphone that offered two-way video calling. That was before Apple’s iPhone 4 revealed Facetime – and it works across different devices and platforms.
