Think the $199 BlackBerry 16GB PlayBook is a bargain?
Don’t wait to long too buy one then. Research in Motion today announced that it will not be making any more of the budget tablets once inventory runs out, according to the technology site Engadget
“RIM will no longer be making the 16GB model of the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet,” the mobile device maker said in a statement to Engadget. “The 16GB PlayBook will continue to be available for distributors and retailers while quantities last.”
RIM, however said that more expensive versions of the PlayBook will continue to be manufactured.
“We remain committed to the tablet space and the 32GB and 64GB models of the BlackBerry PlayBook continue to be available from our distributors around the world,” the statement said. “There is more value for our customers in the higher capacity models (32GB, 64GB), and as such we have decided to focus our efforts here.”
The heavily discounted $199 PlayBook generated a lot of interest among consumers when its original price was slashed by RIM in attempts to win over more people to its tablet device.
Last February, RIM also tried to woo developers by giving a free BlackBerry Playbook tablet to coders who port their Android application for its BlackBerry Tablet OS.
