Omers Ventures, the venture capital investment arm of the Omers, one of Canada’s largest pension funds, has hired George Babu as a director. In this role, he will be responsible for identifying and closing investment opportunities in the technology, media and telecommunications sectors, with a focus on human-computer interfaces, hardware platforms, mobile and enterprise software.

Before joining Omers, babu was general counsel and head of U.S. operations for Stockholm-based social gifting startup Wrapp. But he’s better known in Canada as the co-founder and head of finance and operations at Rypple, a social performance platform acquired by .Salesforce.com in late 2011. He also spent nine years at BlackBerry.
