Samsung launches DLP HDTVs with LED light-engine technology
Samsung Electronics announced its DLP HDTV featuring solid-state LED light-engine technology.  Available in three large screen sizes – 50, 56, and 61 inches – Samsung’s flagship HL-T5087S, HL-T5687S and HL-T6187S models.

These LED based DLP HDTVs are equipped with a wide-angle lens system that allows them to take on a sleek cabinet, reducing the height by 2.5-inches, depth by 2.0-inches and width by 2.0-inches compared to the previous Samsung LED based DLP TVs. Samsung’s Cinema Smooth LED light engine replaces the traditional lamp-based engine with a longer-life LED light engine.  The LED technology features red, green and blue LEDS.

Samsung also introduces three lamp-based UltraSlim DLP HDTVs – the HL-T5076S, HL-T5676S, and HL-T6176S models (50-, 56- and 61-inch screen sizes respectively). All six of these 2007 models feature Full HD 1080p resolution to take advantage of the influx of both HD video content and HD gaming consoles. Also, all 2007 models are 3-D HD ready.

With a depth of only 12.8 to 14.4-inches for the 87 Series Slim LED DLP HDTVs, and 10.6 to 11.5-inches for the 76 Series Ultra-Slim DLP HDTVs, along with their “hidden” speaker design, these TVs offer performance with a pleasing sleek and slim appearance. These 1080p DLP TVs provide superior picture quality with a high contrast ratio of 10,000:1 and brightness. The Cinema Smooth Gen 8 Exclusive Light Engine creates a picture with no visible pixel structure for a captivating, theater-quality experience. Samsung’s Digital Natural Image Engine optimizes the picture from any input signal. The built-in NTSC/ATSC/QAM tuners permit using the TV’s remote control to surf the HDTV signals and digital channels provided by cable suppliers. A special Game Mode optimizes the gaming experience with faster response time, enhanced graphics, and improved sound quality. Triple HDMI inputs connect with other digital devices such as cable and satellite receivers, DVD players and game consoles, for an optimal HD sound and picture experience. A USB connection with photo viewer displays photos on screen, and a PC-input provides connection to a laptop or desktop computer.

The 50-inch HL-T5087S, 56-inch HL-T5687S and 61-inch HL-T6187S models are available now at $2,399 (MSRP), $2,699 (MSRP) and $3,199 (MSRP).

In the 76 Series, the HL-T5076S (50-inches), HL-T5676S (56-inches) and HL-T6176S (61-inches) are now available with estimated selling prices of $2,199, $2,399 and $2,899.

Samsung introduces its 89 Series Slim LED DLP HDTVs. Employing all the same standard features and size offerings of the 87 Series, the 89 Series boasts advanced features including three HDMI 1.3 connections with CEC functionality, Bluetooth capability and single-tuner Picture in Picture (PIP). The HL-T5089S, HL-T5689S and HL-T6189S will retail at $2,499 (MSRP), $2,799 (MSRP) and $3,299 (MSRP) .

HP delivers virtualization software
HP announced virtualization software, including a tool for planning Sun migrations and a partner program that are designed to help enterprises speed adoption of virtualization.

HP Integrity Essentials Capacity Advisor can import data collected from Sun servers by HP Performance Agent. In addition, trending capabilities for this intuitive tool let customers simulate future usage patterns when planning consolidations for HP-UX, Windows and Linux.

Further enhancements to the HP VSE for HP-UX 11i help deliver better business outcomes:

Additionally, HP announced a release of HP Serviceguard that expands high-availability options for customers running virtualization in a production environment. HP Serviceguard for Linux now brings high availability to Linux-based applications running in virtual machines for both VMware technology on HP ProLiant servers and HP Integrity Virtual Machines on HP Integrity servers.

The HP Partner Virtualization Program allows independent software vendors (ISVs) to build and verify applications in a secure, virtualized environment, while choosing from a broad selection of virtualization technologies, platforms and guest operating systems. Through online access to HP Partner Technology Access Centers, ISVs can test, verify and tune applications running on virtual machines.

The HP Partner Virtualization Program allows ISVs to request and use HP ProLiant and HP Integrity servers to test applications running in a virtual environment using software from HP and partners such as VMware. ISVs can debug, port, verify and support applications running on a broad range of operating system deployments, such as HP-UX 11i, Microsoft Windows and Linux (Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server or Red Hat Enterprise Linux). ISVs can also publish their applications in an online catalog to enable customers to determine availability of tested solutions.
