The higher your visceral vitality, the better you will be at seizing and exploiting opportunities. Our research shows that the vast majority of people don’t miss opportunities because they’re not smart enough. They miss them because they don’t have enough energy to pursue them. They believe
that just getting through the day is consuming more resources than they already have. So when they’re exposed to a potential opportunity, they say to themselves: “It would be nice to do that but, with everything I have on my plate right now, I just can’t…” Sound familiar? Yes, you can. You have no idea how much latent power is lying unused within you. Heed the words of Oscar Wilde when he said, “Most of us take our music with us to the grave.” Is that you? Are you saving the most wonderful part of you for the worms? Make a vow right now to yourself that you will recharge your Visceral Vitality and do just one thing to liberate your “music” right now. In fact, let’s have some “serious fun.” Wherever you are, please raise your right hand and say,
“I solemnly swear, that as a result of these words, I will do whatever it takes to increase my Visceral Vitality so I can seize my biggest opportunity with passion and power. No excuses.”
That’s it. You’ve now made a vow to yourself. Honour it. Don’t let yourself down. Share your vow with someone else. Enlist their help in seizing your opportunity. That’s how I made my book happen. I enlisted the help of Michael Adams and David Lavin. I promised both of them that I would finish writing the book by the end of April 2001 so it could be published in the Fall of 2001. I then told everyone else I knew that the book would be out in the Fall. I linked my personal credibility inexorably to the publication of this book. And then I simply made the time to make it happen. It’s amazing how easy it was to prune my other activities to make room for this one. It was like my personal parting of the Red Sea. What appeared a virtual impossibility at first became a fait accompli the moment I made the vow. So make yours now!
Do you know people who seem to be able to do it all? Either they seem to have access to a forty-hour day, or they appear to move at double the speed of normal humans. When you’re with these kinds of people, don’t they seem to be vibrating at a higher frequency? Isn’t it as though they literally crackle with energy? Well, these are the folk who are rich in Visceral Vitality. Spend time with them. Ask them how they make so many of their dreams happen. You know what their response will be? They’ll look at you, pause for a moment while they’re thinking, and then they’ll tell you that they don’t think they’re working any harder than you are. They’ll seem almost surprised at the question. You see, for them, operating out of Visceral Vitality has become instinctive. They wouldn’t dream of doing anything that didn’t contribute to their mission. Consciously or unconsciously, they’ve got into the rhythm of the empowering ritual. Now, just like anyone who has become outstanding at anything, they make it look so easy. But watch them closely: they never stop doing those things that keep vitalizing them.
Part two will delve into how visceral vitality can determine desire.
