Research in Motion’s hardware has taken a beating in the media lately, but at least one conference organizer hopes its wares can still lure in high-profile registrants. The Canadian Venture Capital Association will give every attendee to its 2012 annual conference a BlackBerry Playbook. The tablets will be loaded with an app specially built for the conference.
Entrepreneur helps other business types
Ash Maurya is the founder of Spark59, a firm offering Web-based apps for measuring, learning, and communicating progress. He’s built a business based on helping other businesses, and says entrepreneurs must learn to love the problem, not the solution. That allows freedom to experiment with different approaches to solving the problem, and only keep what works well.
Job search firm gets funding
Toronto-based startup WhoPlusYou secured a round of private financing last week. Based in Ryerson’s Digital Media Zone, the firm develops a social media job search platform with combined employment and professional networking opportunities. Instead of traditional resumes, the site relies on multimedia invitations to catch employers’ attention.
