Talent top startup worry
It ain’t all about the money. According to a survey byPricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, Canadiantech startups worry more about finding great talent to hire than theydo about finding cash. Of the 150 startup CEOs asked, 26per cent named managing talent as their greatest challenge in 2011,followed closely by generating revenue (cited by 25 per cent) andfinding funding (named by 18 per cent).

Mayor of Startupville?
Is mayor Rob Fordneglecting Toronto’s startup community? Dan Morel thinksso. He blogs about the fact that while New York City mayor MichaelBloomberg says he wants to learn to code and shows up to speak at BigApple startup events, Ford has basically been persona non grata atToronto startup shindigs thus far. “How about hanging with Rob Ford atStartup Drinks? Yeah, didn’t think so,” Morel imagines out loud in hisblog posting.

Toronto incubator ExtremeStartups has officially introduced its first five client companiesto the world. The five joined the 12-week program, which launched inJanuary, in mid-March. Although competition to enter the incubator wasfierce (applications were received from 18 countries), the final fiveall ended up being from right here in Canada: Gijit, Granify,ShopLocket, SimplyUs, and Verelo. Demo day is set for June 19 inToronto. Extreme Startups is already takingapplications for its next cohort.
