Symantec Corp. is going to be revamping its Norton product line this week, replacing its line of security products with one cloud-based suite.
On Wednesday, Symantec announced it was going to be pulling together Norton AntiVirius, Norton Internet Security, Norton 360, Norton 360 Multi-Device, and Norton 360 Premier Edition into one suite, simply branded as Norton Security.
As part of the update, Symantec will also be making some changes to the user interface, as well as offering an optional service for users who want to back up their data to the cloud.
The change should make it easier for consumers and businesses to skip buying licenses for products, and instead get them in the cloud, making it easier to keep them updated and maintained, wrote Fran Rosch, executive vice-president of the Norton Business Unit, in a blog post.
“Norton Security will be available with and without cloud backup and combines the functionality of our existing products, eliminating the need for you to choose among nine different [flavours]. Norton Security is currently in public beta and slated for general availability this fall … [It] will feel much more like a service and less like the software you used to ‘set and forget,’” she wrote, adding with the new suite, the company will also be retiring some of its best-known products – Norton Internet Security, Norton AntiVirus, and Norton 360.
“And because Norton Security is cloud-based, it will be simple to add and manage new devices through your personal Norton account – just like you do on Netflix and iTunes. As an added benefit of this service, we’ll keep you armed with real-time updates on threats and tips to help ensure you stay confident and protected wherever you go.”
Norton Security is expected to land in Canada in both English and French on Sept. 24.
