Telus now accepting HTC One pre-orders for Apr. 18th launch

Mobile carrier Telus is now accepting pre-orders for the HTC One, the latest Android smartphone from HTC, with a ship date of April 18th.

The phone can be pre-ordered for $149 on a three-year contract, or for $650 outright with a month-to-month plan.

The Telus model of the HTC One is a LTE smartphone features a 1.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with 32GB of storage, 2GB of RAM and a 4/7” full HD 1080p display. It has an aluminum body and weights 143 grams, measuring 137.4 by 68.2 by 9.3 mm. In addition to a GPS, it has a gyro sensor, an accelerometer, a proximity sensor and an ambient light sensor.

On the multimedia front, it uses HTC’s “BoomSound” audio system, which includes dual frontal stereo speakers with built-in amplifiers and Beats Audio. HTC Media Link HD allows content to be wirelessly projected onto a TV, including movies or shows bought with HTC Watch 2.0.

HTC is expects bit things from One, and has aggressive marketing plans for its new flagship Android handset. HTC had a marketing team working the crowd waiting to get into rival Samsung’s launch of its Galaxy S4 handset last month in New York City, offering hot chocolate, Pringles and on the street product briefings.

In addition to the S4, another Android rival to the One will be Sony’s Xperia ZL, which recently launched in Canada. And on the non-Android smartphone front. BlackBerry launched the Z10 in late January, and Canadian carriers are now accepting pre-orders for its new QWERTY handset, the Q10, for a late April launch.
