With the holiday season fast approaching, consumers should be careful about what tech gifts they might be unwrapping.
Intel Security has released an infographic of the “Most Hackable Holiday Gifts” to help ensure Canadians stay secure while enjoying their new gadgets.
The most hackable holiday gifts are:
- Smartwatches and Fitness Trackers
- Smartphones and Tablets
- Drones and Camera-Enabled Devices
- Kids Gadgets
In a corresponding blog post, Intel Security’s Chief Consumer Security Evangelist, Gary Davis, explained that cyber-criminals can compromise many popular tech gadgets.
He said it’s important for consumers to change the default password on devices, update their software, and be careful what networks they connect to.
Wearable devices could also provide an easy entry point for hackers to connect to your other devices. This makes it important to turn off Bluetooth when it’s not needed, and additionally important to protect more essential devices (like your smartphone, tablet or laptop) by installing security software on them, according to Davis.
