IBM introduces DB2 data server
IBM has released the next-generation DB2 9 data server. The release enables clients to improve their ability to manage all types of information such as documents, audio and video files, images, Web pages and digitally-signed XML transactions. IBM’s data server provides information flow of XML and relational data, regardless of format, platform or location.

DB2 9 includes three major advancements, including “pureXML” technology, “Venom” storage compression and improved autonomic data management capabilities. The new version of DB2 also enables access to data stored on conventional Oracle and MySQL databases.

IBM is simultaneously releasing versions of DB2 for enterprise customers, SMBs (DB2 Express) and developers (DB2 Express-C). DB2 9 will begin shipping on July 28, with pricing starting at US$4,874 per processor or US$165 per user (minimum of 5 users) for DB2 9 Express.

Microsoft releases Antigen e-mail security products
Microsoft Corp. announced the release of Microsoft Antigen e-mail security products, including Antigen for Exchange, Antigen for SMTP Gateways, Antigen Spam Manager and Antigen Enterprise Manager.

Microsoft Antigen e-mail security products use multiple scan engines to help provide protection from viruses, spam and other security threats. In addition to scan engines from security companies AhnLab Inc., Authentium Inc., CA Inc., Kaspersky Lab, MailFilters.com Inc., Norman Data Defense Systems Inc., Sophos Plc and VirusBuster Ltd., all Microsoft Antigen e-mail security products now include the new Microsoft anti-virus engine.

A three-month trial licence for Antigen e-mail security products is available online from the company’s site. All Antigen products will be available through Microsoft Volume Licensing and the Microsoft industry partner channel on July 1.

Sandvine unveils PTS 14000 platform
Sandvine Inc. launched its PTS 14000 platform designed to enable per-subscriber DPI-based policy solutions to solve issues companies face when migrating to 10-Gig connectivity.

The Sandvine PTS 14000 enables broadband providers to deliver per-subscriber IP-based multimedia applications. The product offers greater network integrity, protection that secures the service provider network and subscriber services from the initial stages of malicious security threats. Also included is intelligent traffic management, an approach to manage continuing bandwidth demands and the growing impact on subscriber services from popular applications such as P2P file-sharing.

Sandvine’s PTS 14000 is a platform engineered for large broadband networks to monitor, identify, analyze and optimize network traffic in real-time. Sandvine’s PTS 14000 can be clustered to offer a range of deployment and redundancy options.

Resolute Networks unveils OC-3/STM-1 circuit emulation pseudowire aggregator module
Resolute Networks unveiled the CMX-16C3 Circuit Emulation Solution (CES) aggregation module. The CMX-16C3 is capable of aggregating up to 2,016 circuit emulation streams into a single device.

The CMX-16C3 is a fully standards compatible module that includes all the required CES management and configuration capabilities, as well as GigE and OC-3 physical lines. The product provides a way for OEMs to transition from point-to-point circuit emulation to point-to-multipoint (star) and multipoint-to-multipoint (mesh) topologies.
