Nokia releases E50 business device
Nokia announced an addition to its Eseries group of business devices, the quad-band EGSM Nokia E50. With voice, e-mail and data capabilities the device allows users remote access to company telephony and business applications.

The device comes equipped with pre-installed business applications and the ability to have two phone numbers on one phone. It also includes an MP3 player and a 1.3 mega pixel camera as an option. Built on the Symbian OS, the device supports popular corporate mobile e-mail solutions, including Nokia Intellisync Wireless e-mail, BlackBerry Connect, Visto Mobile, Altexia and Microsoft ActiveSync. The phone also offers up to six hours of talk time.

Sony Ericsson introduces the clamshell Z710
Sony Ericsson today announces the Z710, an EDGE-capable clamshell camera phone.

The Z710 lets users conduct business and access important information on the go, including access to favorite RSS feeds, calendar and contacts synchronization via USB 2.0 support, e-mail-on-the-go (via push e-mail support) and internet access with an HTML browser.

The Z710 includes a 64MB Memory Stick Micro (M2) memory card and can accept up to a 1GB M2 memory card for storing and transferring multimedia content. The 2 Megapixel camera captures stills and video and can be shared using MMS, Bluetooth technology, storage to a Memory Stick or transfer to a PC via USB.

The Z710 is a Quad-band EDGE/GPRS phone available in Q3 2006.

Dell launches PowerVault MD1000
Dell released the PowerVault MD1000, a direct-attached storage enclosure.

The enclosure can incorporate 3.5″ SAS drives. The PowerVault MD1000 uses the proposed industry standard Storage Bridge Bay (SBB) specification. The maximum capacity supported is 4.5TB with the option to expand up to three shelves for a maximum of 13.5 TB. Drive types and sizes supported include 36GB, 73GB and 146GB drives operating at 15,000 RPM and 73GB, 146GB and 300GB drives operating at 10,000 RPM. The PowerVault MD 1000 is suited for users of Dell PowerEdge servers, allowing expansion of disk storage on PowerEdge 1850, 2850, 6800 and 6850 servers.

Priced from about $4,950, the Dell PowerVault MD1000 is available immediately.

E-Business

Vircom offers update for Modus anti-spam solution
Vircom Inc. released version 4.35 of Modus, its e-mail assurance solution, which offers new filtering capabilities for image spam, a form of junk e-mail primarily composed of pictures.

Image spam is difficult to catch because e-mail filters cannot read messages embedded in an image. The product manages inbound and outbound e-mail traffic and offers protection from spam, fraud, phishing, viruses, spyware and out-of-policy communications. The stand-alone ModusMail is an e-mail server with Modus e-mail assurance features. The company’s ModusGate e-mail assurance gateway works with Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes and other e-mail servers.

Modus 4.35 is available now, with pricing depending on configuration and number of mailboxes.
