Raritan introduces version of Paragon II KVM switch
Raritan announced the release of Paragon II version 4.1 and an enhanced user station that provide a KVM solution with management features and high video screen resolutions. The enhancements to the Cat5 KVM switch will assist IT administrators in managing their data centres and also broadcast and media production facilities.

The release of Paragon II and Enhanced User Station (P2-EUST), offer screen resolutions as high as 1600 x 1200 for distances up to 700 feet from the target system. The high resolution capability is ideal for displays that show fine details and situations where hours of intense screen viewing are required. Greater distances can be supported at slightly lower resolutions and all resolutions are supported at refresh rates of 60 Hz, 75 Hz and 85 Hz.

ClipMate Adds Powerful ClipBar and Pasting Tools
Thornsoft Development has released version 7 of its clipboard extender, ClipMate, a Windows productivity tool that works as an extension of Windows clipboard. Users can organize, view, manage, search and edit their clips using a familiar interface that is similar to MS Explorer.

The added ClipBar feature integrates ClipMate into the Windows taskbar where the current clip is always visible. The ClipBar is customizable so that the user’s most frequently-used ClipMate commands are on hand. ClipMate 7 supports drag and drop, so that users can drag text, rich text, and graphic clips into any OLE-compliant applications such as Microsoft Word, Internet Explorer, FireFox, Microsoft Outlook Express, Microsoft Excel and Paint Shop Pro.

An electronic-only version costs US$34.95. A CD edition is also available for an additional US$9.95, which includes shipping. A trial copy is also available from the company’s site.

Oracle Unveils Database Vault for safeguarding sensitive information
Oracle’s Database Vault is designed to protect and limit access to sensitive data and applications. The product enforces preventive controls to help meet compliance requirements by restricting powerful users, such as database administrators, from unauthorized access to specific information.

The product’s flexible security controls also enable customers to implement incremental restrictions on data access, even for regular users. The controls maintain high database performance without requiring changes to existing applications or administrators’ routine responsibilities.

Oracle Database Vault’s security mechanisms are based on realms and rules that further control the scope of an authorized user’s access. Realms are established to encapsulate an existing application or a set of database objects inside a protection zone, while rules further restrict operations based upon business specific operational requirements using environmental or domain-specific decision factors such as database, machine, IP addresses, time-of-day and authentication modes.

Oracle Database Vault, a database enterprise edition option, will be priced at US$20,000 per CPU or US$400 per Named User and is scheduled to be available on Linux within the next month. The product is expected to be available on additional platforms during the first half of fiscal year 2007. Oracle Database Vault is available starting with Oracle Database 10g Release 2.
