A Vancouver-based technology startup accelerator is celebrating the success of some of its past and current business tenants this week for being named to B.C.’s “Ready to Rocket List.”
The list, compiled annually to recognize B.C. tech sector, recognizes firms with a potential to haul in some serious revenue and is in its 10th year of operation. The lists cover technology sectors including ICT, Cleantech and Life Science. The full list, released Feb. 29, can be read here.
Wavefront saw several of its clients listed this year, including: Alligato, Awesense Wireless, Colony Networks, Mobify, rewardLoop and ReFleX Wireless. “Over two-thirds of the companies highlighted in the 2012 Ready to Rocket LIST for ICT were companies that have engaged with Wavefront,” said James Maynard, president and CEO of Wavefront. “Exemplifying the economic impact we are providing with our wireless commercialization expertise.”
A quick survey of the listed companies hints at the collective revenue potential. Awesense Wireless helps utilities reduce energy loss with a line measurement system and estimates that in North America, there’s a potential market of recoverable losses of more than $10 billion per year. ReFleX Wireless is creating wireless sensing solutions that aim to disrupt health care delivery by offering automated multi-patient monitoring systems.
Wavefront launched its accelerator centre in 2009 and provides the startups it hosts with wireless commercialization resources, and helps them find global opportunities.
Companies listed on the 2011 Ready to Rocket list had a fairly lucrative year. Five of them were acquired, and five achieved between $20 to $30 million in revenue.
