Microsoft Corp. has taken the next step with its Windows 8 release schedule and unleashed a free Consumer Preview to the Web.
The new OS is the biggest visual Windows overhaul since Windows 95, using the Metro interface seen on Microsoft’s smartphone OS to simplify the experience for users by grouping tasks into hubs, which are accessed by tapping on large tiles arranged on the screen. It means a much more touch-friendly experience for the newly popular tablet form factor. But will Windows 8 be a good thing for tablets, or a flop?
