Video Rewind: Privacy by Design in the smart grid

In her blog post today on ITBusiness.ca, Ontario Privacy Commissioner Ann Cavoukian calls for her privacy by design philosophy to be applied to mobile devices and applications.

For the past decade, Cavoukian has been the champion of an approach that doesn’t see privacy as something that must be sacrificed in order to gain better security or more conveninece – but something that must exist in every system by default. It transforms a win-lose paradigm into a win-win model. As our world has become more technological, privacy by design has been gaining popularity as a model to protect individual privacy even as the amount of digital personal information increases exponentially.

In this June 2010 video from our sister publication Computerworld, Cavoukian speaks about embedding privacy into the Smart Grid, a more intelligent electricity delivering system.
