Ontario needs a five-year action plan to become a leading mobile jurisdiction.
According to a report from IT World Canada, that’s the demand the Ontario College of Arts and Design (OCAD), a university with a heavily digital-focused curriculum, is making of the provincial government. In a new report, OCAD U notes that Ontario is home to over 700 mobile companies and, with a government-led strategy to harness that critical mass, Ontario’s economy could reap significant benefits.
“The quality of life and economic well-being of Ontarians can be radically transformed in the next decade with the possibilities that mobile technologies, networks and applications offer,” said Dr. Sara Diamond, president of OCAD U and co-principal investigator, said in a statement.
OCAD U wants a five year plan to make Ontario a mobility powerhouse.
Among the asks from OCAD U are creating an Ontario Centre of Excellence for mobility, supporting mobile learning projects, and considering expanding the mandate of the ORION research network beyond just researchers and education institutions.
