WinZip Computing Inc. has revamped its app for Apple iOS, giving users the chance to zip their files and protect them with encryption.
Starting today, iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch users can now use their mobile devices to open files ending with extensions like .zip, .zipx, .rar and .7z. Users can also view files with formats like .doc, .docx, .xls, .ppt, .pages, .numbers, .rtf, .pdf, .jpg, .png, and .gif, and more.
Besides opening files, the app allows users to compress and email large files like photos and videos, zipping them into .zip or .zipx. Users can protect those newly zipped files through encryption, requiring a password before anyone can access them.
The WinZip app is priced at $4.99 in the iOS store and is available for download here.
WinZip also offers a free version of the iOS app. However, it only unzips files and cannot zip or encrypt them, and it also displays advertisements. It is available for download here.
