August 12, 2019 (TORONTO) Six organizations that have been leading the way as innovators in Canada were recognized at the 2019 ITWC Digital Transformation Conference and Awards on August 8.
Morison Insurance, PetalMD, Canadian Blood Services, RBC, the Calgary Drop-In Centre, and the Workplace Safety & Insurance Board were recognized for their digital transformation vision and achievements.
The awards, produced annually by ITWC, Canada’s largest content house serving the IT industry, were presented at the conclusion of a day-long conference looking at the challenges and opportunities that arise as organizations embrace technology to improve efficiency or change their customer experience. Over 200 were in attendance this year.
“Events like these give you a clear idea of the width and breadth of digital,” said ITWC President and CMO Fawn Annan. “This year, we handed out awards to an insurance company, a bank, a not-for-profit drop-in centre, a workplace organization, and a couple of organizations in the healthcare sector. This is about as broad a range as you can get, and it tells us that transformation is now happening in all sectors. This really drives home the idea that DX has arrived.”
The national award program, which was launched in 2017, attracted nominations from B.C. to Nova Scotia. In all, 23 finalists were vying for awards in five categories. An independent panel selected winners based on the measurable impact on the customer experience resulting from a technology initiative.
“It was great to see organizations of all sizes and sectors appearing in our list of finalists,” said Annan. “For every Canadian Tire you had a company that gets far less exposure — a Toronto Rehab Institute or Calgary Drop-in Centre. The Digital Transformation Awards gives these less widely known players a chance to shine, and to stand out and be recognized alongside the major players for all the brilliant things they’ve been doing.”
The winners and their categories:
MUSH/Not for Profit category: Calgary Drop-In Centre. Award accepted by Director of Information Technology Helen Whetherly Knight.
SME Enterprise category: Morison Insurance. Award accepted by Jill Morison, and Rachelle, Alycia and Nick Finn.
Artificial Intelligence Disruptor category: PetalMD. Award accepted by Healthcare Technology Advisor Jim Waters.
Large Public Sector category (tie): Canadian Blood Services and Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB). Awards accepted by CIO Ralph Michaelis (Canadian Blood Services), and Jennifer Anderson, Jason Way, Michael Martino and Stefan Martinovic (WSIB).
Large Private Sector category: RBC. Award accepted by VP, P&CB Architecture and Platform Engineering Bob Blainey and Sr. Director API Delivery and Operations Salah Sharieh.
