COVID-19 has made it difficult for many post-secondary students to find jobs this summer. Students need to finance their education and gain valuable work experience while employers have reduced budgets for hiring that could help them grow.
In response, WIL Digital, an Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC) work-integrated learning program that subsidizes up to 70% of a post-secondary student’s wages, has been expanded.
A key concession is that now post-secondary education institutions are eligible as “employers” under WIL Digital.
ICTC’s WIL Digital funding partner, Employment and Social Development Canada, introduced this and other flexibility measures to assist in the COVID-19 economic recovery, allowing more employers to hire students into tech roles.
