01

Samsung Electronics Canada has refreshed its flagship tablet line with the launch of two new Galaxy Tab S2 models the vendor promises are its thinnest, lightest and fastest tablets yet. The 8″ and 9.7″ models run Google’s Android 5.0 Lolipop OS, and on the 9.7″ model an LTE model is available with data plans on major Canadian carriers.

Powering up downtime

“Beautiful to hold and fun to show off, the Galaxy Tab S2 powers up any downtime by delivering performance and style,” says Paul Brannen, executive vice-president for mobile solutions with Samsung Electronics Canada, in a statement. “A true powerhouse, it sets the standard for what consumers should expect from a portable mobile experience.”

Clarity and sharpness in display

Both the 8″ and 9.7″ Galaxy Tab 2 models are designed for digital media consumption and feature a Super AMOLED with a 4:3 aspect ratio for better reading and adaptive display technology to automatically adjust screen settings to deliver the best experience for different content and in different environments. Both models feature a 2048 x 1536 (QXGA) resolution display.

Light but powerful

Both tablet models measure 5.6 mm thin, 16 per cent than the previous generation, with the 8″ model weighing 9.4 oz. and the 9.7 model weighing 13.8 oz. It comes with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of memory standard, expandable up to 128GB, and is powered by a Quad 1.9 GHz + Quad 1.3 GHz, Octacore application processor. A finger scanner is integrated for added security.

Canadian pricing and availability

The Galaxy S2 will be available in Canada  beginning Sept. 16. The Wi-Fi 9.7″ model will be priced at $599.99, and the Wi-Fi 8″ model at 499.99 — both with 32 GB storage. Users can choose from models in black, white or gold. Pricing and availability for the 9.7″ LTE model with 32GB storage, available only in Black, will be confirmed by carriers Bell, Rogers and Telus.
