With pride month wrapping up in Toronto just a few weeks ago, the party emoji is probably still fresh on many Canadians’ most used emoji page.

9. Kissy-face emoji

The kissing emoji doesn’t just have to be used romantically. Many people use it to sarcastically say goodbye to something they weren’t so keen on having around in the first place. Think of it as how Canadians abruptly said goodbye to Stephen Harper in the fall.

8. Whiny emoji

While often used sarcastically over text, perhaps Scarborough residents are using it to express their dissatisfaction at the new one-stop subway decision.

7. Double pink heart emoji

Frequent emoji users tend to reserve this one for their significant others or best friends. Maybe 2015-16 was a great year for relationships of all kinds?

While the Jays are giving fans reason to be hopeful, some Toronto sports fans are still hurting from the Raptors’ loss to Cleveland in the NBA playoffs. This could explain why the crying emoji ranked so high on this list.

2. Lovestruck emoji

1. Crying from laughter emoji

Finally, we have the ‘crying from laughing too hard’ emoji. While you might not be laughing out loud every time you send one of these to a friend or co-worker, it’s nice to see such a positive sentiment at the top of the list.

Trudeau reception on Twitter

Trudeau’s most tagged emojis seem to reflect the positive sentiment Canadians feel towards him. Prayer hands, a heart and the Canadian flag all seem pretty on track for the leader of our nation.
