A member of Toronto-based accelerator Incubes’ fourth cohort, Alertly offers a do-it-yourself security system you can install in your home, office, or car.
Alertly says 1.6 million homes were broken into last year and less than one in 10 of those had security systems. That’s because existing systems are expensive and hard to use. So Alertly is simple to use and set up while being low cost. Just attach a hub on your wall and put sensors on your doors and windows. You can monitor the system over the Web. There’s even an API offered to developers.
Alertly plans to tackle software as well as hardware, looking at industrial design and interface. It will sell its hardware devices and back them with a freemium subscription monitoring service delivered over the Web. Its co-founders are Hesham Fahim, Jean-Luc David, and Eugene Joe.
Alertly has been bootstrapped to date and is planning a crowdfunding campaign in August. It hopes to raise $1 million to go to market with its product and service.
