Nokia’s Lumia 1020 Windows smartphone has a 41 megapixel camera

Do you really need a smartphone with a 42 megapixel camera? Nokia thinks you do, and is bringing you just that in its new Lumia 1020 smartphone.

A Canadian launch date hasn’t yet been announced, but the Lumia 1020 is coming soon to Canada with carriers Rogers and Telus. Microsoft recently announced its intent to acquire Nokia’s devices business, and the Lumia 1020 is the new flagship Windows Phone 8 smartphone from the Finnish manufacturer.

With all those megapixels, Nokia is really talking-up the Lumia’s camera – it’s also loaded with a range of photography-related tools and settings for the novice and the expert alike. It’s also pushing its new streaming Nokia Music service, and a turn by turn GPS program that can store maps on the phones and includes free updates for as long as the phone still works.

It’s a 4.5” handset with a ClearBlack AMOLED display. It’s powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 or Dual Core 1.5 GhZ processor, and wireless charging is supported with an optional accessory cover.

Nokia was showing off the phone during a recent Microsoft product showcase at the Toronto International Film Festival, and we got a closer look at the new smartphone with all those megapixels.
