Sony’s supersized, 6.4″ Xperia Z Ultra smartphone can handle a little koolade

There was a time when the trend in technology seemed to be making everything smaller. Looking at the increasingly large smartphones hitting the market these days though, the new trend seems to be go big or go home.

Sony has certainly taken the supersizing of smartphones trend to a whole new level though, with the launch of the Sony Xperia Z Ultra. The latest member of Sony’s flagship Xperia smartphone family, the Ultra will launch in Canada exclusively with Bell Mobility in mid-October. It’s an Android model with a huge 6.4″ display, that uses the same Bravia and Trilimunious HD display technology as Sony’s televisions.

It’s waterproof, dust resistant, has an eight megapixel camera and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 2.2 GHz processor with 4G LTE. Pitched around entertainment, Sony is offering purchasers six free digital movies, two months of Sony’s music streaming service, and 10 free games from PlayStation Mobile. And launch partner Bell will be pushing its Bell Mobile TV offerings.

We spoke with Sony Canada to learn more about what people can do with a phone that big.
